As a freelancer or self-employed person in the Netherlands, you are entitled to a maternity benefit from the UWV, known as the ZEZ benefit. This benefit replaces your income during your pregnancy and maternity leave. You apply for it yourself, without the involvement of an employer. The benefit lasts at least 16 weeks and is capped at the statutory minimum wage.
