When I started out as an entrepreneur in consumer product imports, I went looking for an accountant. At first they gave me confidence — clear about their tasks and what I needed to do. But as my turnover grew, I heard less and less from them. Every quarter an email with a deadline, in January a 30-minute call about income tax, then a PDF with a balance sheet. In April I'd find out what I owed.
After several visits from the tax inspector, who had plenty of questions, I'd had enough. A consultant gave me a clear picture of how things should really work. My accountant had no knowledge of international trade. The consultant was direct: convert to a BV and hire staff. That idea had been in my head for a while — but I hadn't dared because I didn't know what was involved.
At my next accountant I thought: 'You've been in this field a long time — you know your stuff.' But through a Google search I discovered he hadn't filed a single ICP return all year. That's when I completed a part-time bookkeeping qualification and managed my own accounts. I found errors at foreign and Dutch suppliers. Since I couldn't blame someone else to the tax inspector, I ended up advising several businesses. Then emails started arriving: 'Sara, how do I invoice goods exported to China?' For years I helped friends, family, clients and suppliers — all under confidentiality agreements — because I genuinely loved helping entrepreneurs. Coaching followed: subsidies, branches abroad, franchise setups. And through word of mouth, there was always someone who dreamed of a business but didn't know where to start.
Years later I decided to focus full-time on helping entrepreneurs with their administration — from an entrepreneur's perspective. Really helping with applications and ideas for doing things differently. Because honestly, if you run a business and want to expand, you have the idea in your head but none of the details. Most entrepreneurs can't — or don't want to — pay an hourly rate to the accountant down the street.
We're not specialists in every industry, but we work with many external partners at partner rates — which saves a lot of money. And we've often been through similar challenges ourselves, so we're wise enough to help you too.
A typical accountant focuses only on your administration and has no interest in you as a person. You're just a name in their system. But we do things with heart.
