Zero-hours contract

A zero-hours contract is an employment contract under which a worker must be available to work but no minimum number of hours is guaranteed. As a result, the worker does not know in advance how many hours they will work or what their income will be. Zero-hours contracts are expected to be prohibited in the Netherlands from 1 January 2027 under the Flexible Workers Security Act. Employers will then be required to include a guaranteed minimum number of hours in the contract.
