WIA disability insurance

The WIA (Wet werk en inkomen naar arbeidsvermogen) is the statutory disability insurance for employees. If you have been unable to work for more than two years, you can apply for a WIA benefit from the UWV. The amount depends on the degree of disability and your previous salary. As a freelancer you have no entitlement to WIA — you must arrange your own disability insurance (AOV) or await the compulsory BAZ scheme the government is preparing.
