WBSO (Dutch R&D Tax Incentive)

The WBSO (Wet Bevordering Speur- en Ontwikkelingswerk or Dutch R&D Tax Incentive) is a fiscal subsidy scheme from the Dutch government that allows businesses and self-employed professionals to reduce the costs of research and development (R&D). Employers pay less payroll tax on the wages of employees working on R&D. Self-employed professionals receive a fixed deduction on their income tax if they spend at least 500 hours per year on R&D work. The application is submitted via the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) before the project starts.
