The state pension (AOW, Algemene Ouderdomswet) is the basic government pension paid to everyone who reaches the AOW age (67 in 2024). As a freelancer you accrue AOW entitlement through national insurance contributions, but you have no occupational pension — you are responsible for additional pension savings via an annuity or other product. The AOW for single persons is approximately €1,450 net per month (2024).
