Provisional tax assessment

A provisional tax assessment is an estimate of the income tax you owe for the current year, issued by the Dutch Tax Authority or requested by yourself. You pay it in instalments during the year so you are not faced with a large bill at year end. If your income turns out higher or lower than expected, you can adjust the assessment mid-year. This prevents tax interest charges for underpayment.
