NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority)

The NVWA (Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit or Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority) is the Dutch supervisory authority that checks whether food, products and animals are safe and comply with legislation. For imports of foodstuffs from countries outside the EU, the NVWA checks documentation, origin and if necessary the product itself on arrival. For non-animal foodstuffs from third countries a mandatory pre-notification to the NVWA is required before arrival. Without NVWA approval a shipment is not released.
